SAVING WATER Being economical in our own use of water makes good sense both today and for the future of the water environment in which we live. Even though water resources in Hampshire and West Sussex are usually replenished by winter rainfall, if we abstract too much water for public water supplies, we may risk damaging the water environment. Fortunately, at Portsmouth Water we abstract less today than we did 15 years ago (see the Water Efficiency Plan for further details). However, it is important that everyone plays their part in ensuring that sufficient water resources are sustained for future generations, not just of humans but all species on the planet. Here we outline the Company's plan for encouraging efficient use of water supplies as well as outlining some tips for saving water in domestic households, commercial businesses and Schools; if you are charged for your water supply by meter they will help you save money too!
Commercial customers can sign up to the government's water efficiency campaign titled 'The Big Splash'. Please use the link below to obtain details of the free audit and sector specific advice.
Waterwise is an NGO dedicated to reducing water wastage. They work with the Government, Regulations, Industry Consumer Groups and other NGO's. To find out more please use the link below. A new Drought Tolerant Garden has been established at the entrance to the Company's Head Office. It demonstrates that gardens that don't have to be watered can still be colourful.
