Based in Havant

Working in a busy and modern Water Quality Department currently undergoing UKAS accreditation, we are looking to recruit a Water Quality Technician to  work in our laboratory.

The candidate must possess a minimum of 2 ‘A levels’ in science related subjects and ideally experience in working in an ISO17025/DWTS laboratory.

About us

Portsmouth Water is an independent water supply company that serves over 280,000 customers in and around the Portsmouth area of the south-east of England in the UK. It has a long tradition of providing safe drinking water of the highest quality from its springs, wells, boreholes, and surface water sources.

We have a proud record of maintaining high standards of customer service whilst having the lowest water supply charges in England and Wales.

We currently employ over 220 people ranging from Customer Services to Civil Engineers and are primarily based at our Head Office in Havant with treatment works sites at Fishbourne, Farlington and Itchen.

We offer opportunities through a range of Modern Apprenticeships including Mechanical and Electrical, Business Administration and Customer Services allowing employees to obtain qualifications ranging from an NVQ Level 2 to HNC.

Employees are encouraged to further their academic qualifications in relation to their job activity. For example a number of employees have gone on to achieve, with our full support, Degree and MSc qualifications.

All employees receive an annual Performance Development Review where in discussion with their Supervisor, they reflect on their performance over the past year and where necessary highlight areas that need developing.

What We Do

Portsmouth Water has a wide variety of job activities all essential to the smooth running of the company.

Water Operations

Our primary function is to deliver high quality drinking water to our 280,000 customers 24 hours a day 365 days a year. To achieve this we have people carrying out important activities such as the building and maintenance of our infrastructure e.g. reservoirs, treatment works and the mains network. This allows for the water to be treated and then distributed through a large network of pipes to your tap. On top of this we have a Water Quality team ensuring your water has been tested so it is of the highest quality.

Customer Services

In Customer Services, we answer the phone 172,000 times a year and work quickly to resolve customer queries and problems. So when problems happen at Portsmouth Water, we aim to fix them fast. Being a highly regulated environment, we have teams of specialists working to maintain the highest customer standards at all times.

Support Services

Our Support Services functions work alongside the business, offering expertise on a range of disciplines including HR, safety, finance, procurement, IT, legal matters, etc. These back office functions are essential to providing consistency and compliance across the company and ensure that our people and our systems are given the care and attention they need.
