Portsmouth Waters Drought Garden Awarded A Regional Certificate Of Excellence
The drought tolerant garden, established by Portsmouth Water at its Head Office entrance in 2007 as part of its 150 year anniversary celebrations, has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence in the 2008 South & South East in Bloom Competition.
The plants in the garden, all of which require little or no watering, were chosen to be visually stimulating whilst contributing colour, scent and variation in leaf texture and shape.
Diane Bourne, our Drawing Office Supervisor, who was responsible for co-ordinating the design, says "At first we were rather apprehensive about how successful the garden would be. We only watered the garden in the first month and ever since then it has become really well established. Staff and visitors to the office, as well as passers-by, have complimented us on the display and this award really is the icing on the cake.
Credit must also go to 'Back Gate Gardens' who prepared the design, and our operational staff, led by Ian Davies, who have planted and maintained it. This is the first time we have entered the competition and it is pleasing to win an award at the first attempt."
