It is the Company's policy whenever practicable to give notice to consumers before shutting off the water in the Company's main, but
no such notice can be given in a case of emergency, nor for shutting off the supply between midnight and 4.00 am for the purpose of leak detection
. Consumers requiring a continuous supply of water for any trade or business, or for any domestic apparatus depending upon a supply of continuous running water are strongly recommended to install a storage cistern of sufficient capacity to cover their requirements when the water in the Company's main is temporarily turned off.
For planned maintenance work we will pre-warn you of the date and anticipated duration of the interruption. We will always
endeavour
to restore supplies within the stated period. However for burst mains it is not always possible to accurately predict the time of restoration.
Bursts on small diameter water mains can normally be repaired in less than three hours.
A correctly installed and maintained standard central heating system will operate safely during the period of interruption but combination boilers will not discharge hot water from the taps. We advise you not to use washing machines, dish washers or other devices running on mains water pressure.
To determine if supplies have been restored, periodically open your kitchen cold water tap.
Do not leave the tap open
waiting for the supply to be restored, as this could cause flooding.
Occasionally, on restoring the supply, you may experience mildly
discoloured
water. If the kitchen cold water tap is opened for approximately 20 minutes and it does not clear, please contact us.
White, milky
coloured
water which, when placed in a jug, clears from the bottom, is air.
Should this persist for more than six hours, please contact us.
