PUPILS SET FOR A SPLASHING GOOD TIME AT STAUNTON COUNTRY PARK

Pupils will dive into a world of water at Staunton Country Park when they take part in the launch of the Water Is Life education programme on Tuesday 28 March.

Around 60 year five children from local school Barncroft Junior in Leigh Park will head to the Hampshire County Council owned country park for the launch of the joint Staunton Country Park and Portsmouth Water education programme.

The day has been organised to mark the start of the new learning experience which will see children take part in a range of activities teaching them all about the water cycle, water supply and treatment as well as water conservation.

It will provide them with the opportunity to carry out practical tasks, using resources provided by Portsmouth Water, to learn all about the world of water.

As well as providing water boxes that contain a number of hands on experiments for children to use when they come to the park on educational visits, there are water activity sheets readily available for schools to use to educate Key Stage 2 and 3 pupils. Portsmouth Water staff will also deliver specific areas of the programme.

Hampshire County Councillor Ted Gale, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Portsmouth Water to encourage the community to become more energy efficient. The aim is to educate younger people on a range of issues relating to water in a fun and engaging way. I am sure they will have a whale of a time learning all about the wonderful world of water.”

Ian Limb, of Portsmouth Water, said: “The key aims of this partnership are to teach our community, in particular future generations, the importance water has on the planet, the supply process and, most importantly, why we all need to use water wisely.”
