Thursday 30 March 2006PORTSMOUTH WATER RECEIVE GOLD RoSPA AWARD FOR 2006 The Company has been awarded, at the first time of asking, The Royal Society of Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) GOLD award for Occupational Health and Safety. The GOLD award will be presented at a special ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham, Metropole Hotel, National Exhibition Centre on Thursday 11 May during the Safety and Health Expo 2006, the UK 's premier health and safety at work exhibition. The RoSPA awards range from Merit, Bronze, Silver and Gold with Gold being the highest award. The RoSPA Awards scheme, celebrating its Golden Jubilee in 2006 , is one of the longest running and most highly respected occupational award programs. The awards are not about reducing the number of accidents but about ensuring that organisations have good health and safety management systems in place. The Company, supported by the Trade Unions, Unison and GMB, for the first time submitted an application to the RoSPA 2006 Health and Safety Awards. The application, which was 3½ inches thick, demonstrated the Company's commitment and management towards health and safety. Managing Director Nick Roadnight on hearing the news, said “It is pleasing that an organisation as respected and well known as RoSPA have recognised the efforts made by the Company in awarding us this prestigious Gold award. It goes without saying the award is not the result of individuals but due to a collective team effort from all areas of the organisation. I am and so should everybody else be very proud of their efforts in achieving this award.” David Rawlins, RoSPA Awards Manager said “Portsmouth Water has demonstrated how seriously they take health and safety management and are a fine example to many other companies. We would like to see more organisations following their lead by providing a positive example.” Contact: Ian Limb, Personnel and Safety Manager, Portsmouth Water, Tel 023 9224 9224 or visit our website at www.portsmouthwater.co.uk ENDS
