SUCCESS FOR PORTSMOUTH WATER at HBF Utility Awards

Portsmouth Water are celebrating after being announced as the 2017 winner of the Home Builders Federation Utility Company of the Year Award.

This prestigious award was presented to Portsmouth Water at the HBF National Utilities Conference on Wednesday 27th Sept at the DW Stadium, Wigan. Previous water industry winners of this award include United Utilities and Anglian Water.

The award was given to Portsmouth Water because of their forward thinking approach to a new connections policy which dispenses with street meter chambers in favour of a totally above ground on wall metering solution. The HBF believes that it is a basic and fundamental right that all customers, including the elderly and those with disabilities, must be able to easily read their water meters. In this way they can better monitor their water usage, detect leaks, and take appropriate action were necessary. Above ground water meters are also an enabler for many other positive initiatives including reducing disruption in the highway with no maintenance required in the street, future smart meter technology and is generally regarded by the HBF as best practice in the provision of new home service connections. Rod Porteous, Portsmouth Water’s Engineering Director, said on hearing about the award “I am delighted that our innovative approach to new connections has been recognised by the Home Business Federation. We pride ourselves on providing the best service we can and continually look at innovative approaches throughout our business to further improve our services especially to those that are considered the most vulnerable”
