Current Projects and Investment

Portsmouth Water owns and operates a wide range of assets and infrastructure in order to abstract, treat and distribute reliable and high-quality water to over 750,000 local residents, businesses and tourists. We require a detailed plan and well managed programme of maintenance and improvements for these assets, to enable us to continue to provide clean drinking water to our customers

Over the past decade, the number of domestic properties we supply has increased by almost 20,000, meanwhile tourism has increased, and there's a need to abstract less from the environment due to the impacts we are seeing from climate change.

Over the next five years, Portsmouth Water has committed to invest £377 million to maintain and improve water supply for our customers. This includes capital expenditure of £200 million, £15 million of which will be spent on renewing our network of water mains. Portsmouth Water will remain the most efficient water company, delivering the lowest water bills in England and Wales while investing for the future.

Sharing our progress on delivering our investment delivery plans 2025 Report

To maintain our strong company performance, continuous improvement remains a priority for us. It’s why we’re investing £200 million over the next five years to make long-term improvements to our pipes, treatment works and water sources. We will report on delivering on the improvements we have committed to in the below Delivery Plan Report. In this report, we’ll show if we’re on track to deliver on time, on budget and to the right standard.

We’ll share these updates each year and if we don’t deliver, the funding will be returned to customers through water bills.

Although our plans are packed with ambition, we’re confident we can deliver everything that we have committed to, and we’ve set up a team to keep us on track.
